about
Musically, this song was inspired by listening to “Does the Lion City Still Roar?” by Less Than Jake. I started writing the lyrics of this song shortly after the murder of George Floyd. Enraged, and frustrated with the lack of empathy from the majority of white America, this song is an attempt to summarize some of those feelings.

lyrics
Verse 1
A Shutzstaffel of privilege for the digital age
Ingrained for generations
To serve and protect our original sin
Some hide in plain sight in pale armor
Some hide in blue lights and Kevlar
Two shades of color, two brands of justice
Chorus
Tears bring only canisters to fill our eyes again
His breath drew only emptiness
An innocent lost life reflected
In the kaleidoscope of shattered glass
Remove the knee pressed to the neck for eight and forty-six
Verse 2
Black and blue in the face of a tragedy, a travesty (A travesty)
A tree and noose behind the badge
A sheep’s disguise, followed happily
We were blind to the struggle of ages
Our eyes open, we fight what they trained us
United colors, united resistance
Chorus
Tears bring only canisters to fill our eyes again
Our breaths bring only noxious gas
A million lost lives are reflected
In the kaleidoscope of shattered glass
Remove the knee pressed to the neck for 400 years
Bridge
Don't start no shit (Won’t be no shit)
Don't wrestle the pig cause the pig lives for it
Don't start no shit (Won’t be no shit)
They enforce a code but don’t follow it
Don't start no shit (Won’t be no shit)
They chose their color, but you exist in it
Don't start no shit (Won’t be no shit)
We formed this hell. You’re living through it
Chorus
Tears bring only canisters to burn our eyes again
(Say their names)
Our breaths bring only noxious gas
A million lost lives are reflected (take back) (these streets)
In the kaleidoscope of shattered glass (we keep)(us safe)
(See a new way)
A choking world resists arrest
